Veet Easy Wax*

When the Veet Easy Wax advert popped up on my screen a few weeks back, I rolled my eyes and muttered, "yer right", to my mam. I'd tried the Veet wax products before, the type which you warm up in your hands, with no luck and left in a sticky painful mess. I was also annoyed by the advert, showing a model with silky smooth legs pretending to wax away invisible hairs, so when I got an email inviting me to try the Veet Easy Wax for free, I jumped at the chance; "Let's see how well it works on my leg hair", I thought.

The package arrived on my door a few days later and I ripped it open:

Inside I had a self heating device and cap, wax refill, 12 strips, 4 wipes, a base and, an electrical cable to plug it in.

I scoured the instructions and popped the wax cartridge into the device before plugging it in. I then had to wait twenty minutes for the wax to heat up.

After the twenty minutes, I applied the wax to the back of my hand only to find the application more sticky than smooth. I figured that the wax hadn't reached the correct temperature and left it a further ten minutes.

mmm leg hair

After that further ten minutes, I applied the wax in a line onto my thigh and stuck down one of the non-woven strips. I rubbed the strip a few times, grabbed the top, closed my eyes and ripped back against the direction of the hair.

And it wasn't that bad.

Now, I am used to having a wax in a salon, so I might be used to the pain that comes with waxing, but for a home wax kit, the pain wasn't too bad.

I kept waxing away and soon I was out of the strips. I'd managed to do both my legs from my knee to midway on my thigh:

Look at that sexy line of leg hair

Negatives:
I was pretty shocked how quickly the strips had run out in relation to the amount of wax I still had left; if I wanted to do both my full legs, I'd have to buy an extra pack for £2.93 for 24.

While the wax did take off the majority of my leg hair, it did miss thin hairs and it was tricky to do the backs of my leg.

I don't think it would be suitable for those with very short or fine hair.

I wasn't quite brave enough to use this on my bikini area so I think I'll be sticking with my local salon for that.

Positives:
This is one of the better home wax sets I've tried and it's great that you can buy replacement wax and strips at a reduced cost.

It really was quick and easy to use, and the wipes got all the wax off and soothed my red waxed leg.

I don't think I'll be hanging up my razor any time soon, but I found this great for doing the tops of my legs as I hardly ever shave them due to lack of time.

Red Nose Nails!

Hello and Happy Red Nose Day!

I think you must've been living under a rock to not have noticed the build up to Comic Reliefs' Red Nose Day. Whether your office has dressed up, you've watched the charity specials or you're sporting a Dinoroar red nose, the giving spirit is in the air and it's easy to get involved.

Whilst I would normally by a nose or t-shirt from TK Maxx, something caught my eye whilst I was shopping in Claire's...

...RED NOSE NAIL WRAPS!

These designer nail wraps are a Claire's Accessories exclusive and a £1 donation will be made to Comic Relief from the sale of the nail wraps.

A close up of nails with red nose day nail wraps on

Every year there's a theme surrounding Red Nose Day and this year's theme is Dinosaurs which I absolutely adore! There are three characters; Triceytops (on my index finger, far right), T-Spex (on my ring finger), and Dinomite (on my little and middle fingers). Dinomite is definitely my favourite. I love his smile!

A hand with red nose day nail wraps on the nails

In the pack of nail wraps, there are 16 transfers and a nail file and pointed stick to push back cuticles and press down the transfers.

To apply, you first buff the nail, then wipe with acetone to clean the nail before applying the transfer. To finish you use the nail file included to shape the transfer to your nail. The whole process took me around 20 minutes as it's quite tricky to apply the transfer without any bubbles.

I also had a little trouble getting the right size transfer for my nail size and as a result, some of the transfer overlaps onto my skin or you can see part of my nail.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with my nails, they make me giggle like a kid when I look at them and they've been on for 5 days so far with no problems.

But nail wraps weren't the only thing I bought....

...POM POM GOOGLY EYED RED NOSE HAIR ELASTICS

(I'm actually just a big kid)

I love wearing my hair in bunches and so this double pack of pop pop hair elastics were a must have for me. I adore them, and who can blame me? Claire's make a donation for the sale of these guys too, so it really is a win-win situation.

Have you guys done anything for Red Nose Day?

NOTD: Barry M Gelly in Greenberry

My NOTD

I went to the dentist earlier in the week and decided I deserved a treat for being so brave.
Enter Barry M's Gelly nail paint in Greenberry;

These photos were taken in natural sunlight and while the Gelly looks more blue in the pictures, it is actually more green in the flesh.

A picture of Roxy's nailed painted in Gelly nail varnish

The colours in the S/S13 Gelly range are GreenBerry (pictured above), Lychee (beige), Papaya (orange) and Dragonfruit (pink).

A picture of Gelly nail varnish in Greenberry applied to nails

The application process was quite tricky with the Gelly nail varnish. The first coat I applied was streaky and see through and the second coat dragged and become blotchy. The third coat, however, looked perfect not only because it was evenly spread and smooth on the nail.

My mother commented that the finish looked similar to the Shellac nails which is a great result from a £3.99 nail varnish.

Chipping occurred after roughly 3 days on the tips of the nails and the thick varnish got dented slightly (see my index finger in the first picture).

I've recently purchased the Lychee colour as well so keep an eye on my instagram and twitter for pictures!

Have you purchased any of the Gelly range? What did you think?

What's in my (Harvey Nichols) bag?

Exciting buy!

I bet you've all been dying to know what I got from Harvey Nichols...

A picture of a Harvey Nichols large bag by a fire place and some flowers

Well wait no more!

A picture of an item wrapped in Harvey Nichols tissue paper

Okay... I'll show you now ;)

A picture of the outside of a Camrbidge satchel company satchel showing the pockets and the leather with the label and tag still attached

Ah! How beautiful is this?
I've wanted a Cambridge Satchel for ages and when I went to Harvey Nichols on Saturday and saw the bags, I couldn't resist having a look. They had a whole range of colours at the store but the metallic range had me completely smitten. Obviously, the satchels aren't cheap so I had to seriously think about whether I was willing to part with my cash. We walked round Bristol for a short while, visited Debenhams and Boots but I could not stop thinking about those satchels.
We went back to Harvey Nichols and I stood looking at the range of colours, trying to decide which one I wanted. The sales lady really helped me out by asking which one I'd want to wear 10 years from now; I wouldn't want a bright pink one, I change my preference for gold and silver daily and cream would stain easily, so I finally settled on a beautiful pewter colour from the metallics which, is exclusive to Harvey Nichols.
A picture of the back of a Camrbidge satchel company satchel showing the logo

For two days, my bag lay untouched and unwrapped. I loved my new bag so much I was afraid to open it, how stupid is that? Eventually, I opened up the packaging and the bag is currently on my lap as I won't let it leave my side.
A picture of the inside of a Camrbidge satchel company satchel showing the pockets and the leather

The inside looks quite small but this is due to the stiffness of the leather. The more I use it, the softer the leather will become and easier to use. The satchel is big enough to contain my purse, phone, makeup and my diary so it's great for everyday use and makes such a statement.

I love this bag. I really do.

A picture of Roxy with Shingles

3. I got Shingles, ouch. I took a very sexy picture of the scabby bits just for you guys. Luckily, I'm coming to the end of it, I've just got to leave it alone despite it being so itchy!

Etail PR, ASOS and Marc B Competition

Over at the Etailpr Blog, there's a competition to win £75 to spend at Marc b. and £175 to spend at ASOS! I can only dream about winning that amount to spend on clothes and bags but if I don't win, it'd be awesome if a follower of mine won.

To enter, you just get yourselves over to the Etailpr blog and follow the instructions.

Beautysets - Marc B & Asos picture of shoes, watches, all made on beautysets by Roxy's Box of Tricks
Marc B & Asos

Above, you can see my dream outfit... and I should probably explain why I selected these items.

1. Marc B Cheryl Black Handbag.
This bag is quilted and boasts a laced chain strap. It's big enough to fit all the essentials but is super fashionable. Marc B reckons this will be the next 'it' bag and I can't help but agree. The Cheryl bag is my favourite out of the new collection and if you don't like black, it's also available in a camel colour so no excuses.

2. Bambam Bodycon Dress in Storm Print.
I love lightening print. I'm not entirely sure why. Maybe it's because storms are super cool, maybe because it incorporates pastel goth style into one piece. Either way, I love it and I want it.

 3. Michael Kors Rose Gold & Crystal Chronograph Watch
I admit it, I'm like a broken record about this watch but, isn't beautiful?

4. River Island Edon Lace Up Flatform Shoes
Flatform shoes are the new platforms. This is super awesome news for me as I can't walk in heels. And what better way to show off my new walking with height skills, with a pair of in your face, bright shiny silver flatforms. Perfect.
5. Asos Ultra Wet Look Leggings
The great British weather is not a forgiving mistress, and while I'd love to parade my bag and dress around with no leggings; I'd freeze to death. With such an epic outfit, I need some pretty epic leggings and rain always comes before a storm so I think it's appropriate to wear wet look leggings with a storm dress.

And there you have it! Thank you for reading and I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Ahh it's the Apocalips!

I gave in and jumped on the Rimmel London Apocalips bandwagon. I went for the 101 Celestial colour which is a lovely creamy tone. The wand applicator has a little hole in the middle which allows for a store up of the gloss so there's no need to reapply mid application.

A picture of Rimmel London's Apocalips lip gloss in celestial

A picture of lips naturally, lips with apocalips applied and lips after an hour of wearing apocalips
From Left to Right: My lips naturally, My lips with the Apocalips, My lips after an hour of wear

From the photo, you can see that the Apocalips Celestial is a really good match for my lip colour and looks really natural. The gloss is smooth and creamy and doesn't dry out my lips. It isn't sticky either so that's an added bonus!

I decided to try out how well the gloss stays...
A picture of the transfer of Apocalips on a glass and skinDrinking and eating: The gloss transfers slightly onto the glass I drunk from but the majority came off when I was eating. I expected this to be honest as Apocalips doesn't claim to be long lasting or a lip stain so it's only natural for it to transfer.
Kissing: My boy never kisses me if I wear gloss so I generally don't have to worry, but I planted a kiss on my arm to see if any of it transferred and it did. This demonstrates why the boy doesn't like kissing me with gloss ;)

I can see why bloggers are in love with this range. I love the creamy texture and the colour and will be going back to Boots to pick up another colour soon.

Apocalips retails at £5.99  and comes in a whole range of colours.

Will you be jumping on the Apocalips bandwagon?

Valentine's Wish List

Boogie Nights; Model's Own and Sally Hanson

This is probably one of my favourite nail looks, just because it's so easy and looks fantastic!

Roxy's Box of Tricks
Roxy's Box of Tricks
Roxy's Box of Tricks

I used Sally Hansen's nail varnish in Bewitched which, I found in Poundland for the grand total of (can you guess?) £1!! I was actually really shocked because Sally Hansen is such a good brand. I think this generation of bbloggers concentrate on newer brands and sometimes forget about good quality varnish like this one. Whilst the colour in the bottle is purple, after two coats on the nail it appears more of a black purple- the perfect base for Boogie Nights.

Boogie Nights is a bblogger favourite, and I can understand why. It's part of Model's Own Mirrorball collection and boasts large glitter flakes with a purple tinge. I find it a bit difficult to get the glitter/nail ratio right as the flakes can just stick together but too much glitter is never a bad thing!

The only problem I have with this look is when I go to remove it as the glitter takes some scrubbing to get it off! Apart from that, I wore my nails like this for a week and a half with no chipping!

What's your favourite nail look?

OOTD: Casual Shopping

Hello lovelies. I'm now on 30 followers! That's 30 more than I ever thought I'd get and I'd like to say thank you!

I thought I'd share my OOTD with you but first, a disclaimer;
I'm not particularly fashionable and I'm not a fashion blogger who can afford to wear everything from Topshop and Warehouse. I'm also not going to lie about what I wore that day and I'm not going to pretend I'm a size 6. If you don't like what stand for, then stop reading now :)

Now that's over with:
Outfit post

Roxy's Box of Tricks

Top: Plain black top, Primark
Leggings: New Look
Bag: New Look

This outfit is currently my go to outfit.  The long dress hides my fixation and my long bag doesn't get in the way of my crutches. The dress is also incredible comfortable. I'm looking to wear brighter clothes in 2013, but I do like my greys and blacks.

What is your 'go to' outfit?

The other hemp

One of my favourite hand creams is The Body Shop's Hemp Hand Protector.

Roxy's Box of Tricks
When I first got a sample of the hemp hand protector, I was really put off by the smell. It bares a strong earthy, herbal fragrance which really takes some getting used to. The cream itself is thick and the smallest amount goes a long way.

After using this product for only a week, I can already see a huge difference in my hands. My palms aren't blistering from dryness in the cold and the skin isn't so tight. I've also noticed that my nails are stronger and my cuticles are in better condition.

While the price does seem steep, £10 for 100ml, you really don't need much of the cream. I've been using it a few times a day for a week and have hardly dented the amount in there.

I'm also going to start using the cream on my feet at night as their very dry too. Just because it says hand protector doesn't mean I can't use it else where ;)

Have you guys used any of the Hemp range from Body Shop?

Roxy's Foxy bag

How cute is this bag?

Roxy's Box of Tricks

Roxy's Box of Tricks
I was on Ebay, ordering some cheap maxi skirts from China when I spotted this charming little bag. It's offered in a range of colours; green, black, red and  my orangey brown.

Roxy's Box of TricksIt's a good size bag; 24cm length, 18cm high and 5cm wide, small enough to take out to lunch but large enough to fit all the essentials like phone, purse, keys and makeup.

The bag comes with an adjustable strap. I've put it on the second hole and the bag sits above my hip so it's a good length for me.

The bag is made of Bicast leather so it smells and feels a little plasticy but I really don't care because it's so dainty and adorable.

As for what animal the bag is supposed to be, it's listed as Fox/Owl. I chose to get it in the orange colour so it looks more like a fox but I am debating getting a green bag next.

I bought this bag for £5.99 but you can get it cheaper by typing 'Fox Owl Bag' into Ebay.

What do you think of my bag? Would you consider getting one?

Argan Oil

A selection of photos showing Moroccan Argan OIl in it's packaging, bottle and consistancy

Moroccan Argan Oil is my current favourite product. My hair takes a lot of heat abuse and the ends are quite dry and weak due to my dip-dye so I need a pretty hardcore product to get it back to a good condition. I've read about this product on Laura's Blog and when my parents said they were off to home bargains, I told them to keep an eye out for it. Luckily for me, they returned £2.99 poorer and with my Argan Oil.

I have the treatment oil which you apply to damp hair. The oil itself is quite thick and smells quite sweet. You take a few drops of the oil and work into toweled, but damp, hair before blow drying.

This brilliant Moroccan Argan Oil gives the hair UV protection (UV dries out the hair and makes it brittle) and the vitamin E found in the Oil helps keep hair frizz free and healthy.

Here are the results on my hair:

A picture of Roxy's hair wet
Oil on hair whilst wet

A picture of Roxy's Hair looking fluffy and healthy
My hair dried

While my hair looks pretty normal in the photos, I can assure you that the Argan Oil has made a big difference. My hair is smooth and silky, my split ends are controlled and my dip dyed ends aren't so dry. The sweet smell of the oil has also transferred onto my hair and it's much easier to brush. I was worried about my hair becoming oily but after not washing my hair for a week (the things I do to test products ;) ) it was still silky smooth.

This is my absolute star buy and for £2.99 you get 100ml which should last quite a while as you only need a couple of drops for each application. I would definitely recommend going down your local Home Bargains to dig out this little wonder.

Have you tried Moroccan Argan Oil?

Pedi Pro, meet my Hobbit toes.

Over the Christmas break, I was watching Stephen Fry: Gadget Man when he done a feature on the PediPro Deluxe. The PediPro Deluxe is a pedicure treatment with a rotating head which removes dead and callous skin. I was very lucky to receive one of these PediPro Deluxe for Christmas off and decided it was about time to use and review it.

I would advise any readers who do not like feet/toes to look away now ;)

PediPro

Left Picture: This is the PediPro Deluxe with it's lid on. It's a handheld device and takes up little room.

Right Picture: This is my big toe which has heaps of dead and hand skin. I'm going to test out my PediPro Deluxe on this toe.

Left Picture: This is the Buffing Disk head designed to gently remove the hard and callous skin.

Right Picture: My toe after using the Buffing Disk. Already there's a huge difference (although it has taken some of my nail varnish off!)

Left Picture: This is the Buffing Pad head designed to finish off your feet. This leaves the skin smooth and silky.

Right Picture: My toe after the Buffing Pad. You can see how smooth my toe now is. No hard skin in sight!

Pedi ProI am really impressed with this product. Not only did it remove the hard skin and soften my toe up, but the whole process only took a few minutes. The sound it made when I first turned it on was a little off putting but it doesn't hurt on either of it's two settings. The only downside for me, is that when using the Buffing Pad, white dusk (skin cells- ew), collects on the side of the machine and flies up into the air and because of this, I had to stop a couple of times to clean the excess dusk away. I also found that if you use the PediPro Deluxe on good skin for too long, that it'll feel a little hot on your skin.

Overall, I would recommend this to anyone with hard skin on their feet. It's made a huge difference to the appearance of my toe (see picture on left). The PediPro Deluxe also comes with a pouch to store it in, extra Buffing Pads and a little brush to clean with. The only thing that you need to get going, is 4xAA batteries.

The PediPro Deluxe currently retails at £19.99 - Bargain.

Have you used the PediPro Deluxe? Would you consider buying one?

MUA constellations; Stars in your nails.

I recently purchased Nail Constellation by MUA in the Scorpio colour scheme. There are five different colour options in the Constellation range; Scorpio, Pisces, Leo, Gemini and Libra. You might have noticed that there's only five out of the twelve constellations so I'm hoping that MUA will expand the range. I went for the Scorpio set because of the colour of the beads; green, gold and pink.

A picture of Opi's Nail Envy, Nail paint by Barry M, Nail constellations and Rimmel pro super wear.

Before I paint my nails, I use 'OPI Nail Envy' nail strengthener. I love this product for a number of reasons; it strengthens my nails, protects them from staining and dries really quickly. To compliment the gold and pink, I paint my nails in 'Barry M's Nail Paint' in colour 334, Teal. In the pictures below, I am wearing two coats of the nail polish for a fantastic deep colour. To protect my nails from chipping, I use 'Rimmel Pro Super Wear', a top coat, which gives a really amazing high shine and protects from chips for roughly ten days.

On my ring finger, once my second coat of nail paint had been applied, I sprinkled the MUA constellations onto the wet nail until it was completely covered. I would advise doing the constellations over a small tray as they do go absolutely everywhere otherwise. Once I was sure that my nail had dried and the constellations had stuck, I gave a quick once over with the Rimmel top coat.

A picture of Barry M's nail paintA picture of MUA constellations in the bottle

I'm really pleased with the result of the nail constellations. It gives my nails a really high end look but on a budget. I would definitely recommend.

Have you used the MUA nail constellations? What did you think?

My Primark SS13 Pieces

Fashion isn't my strong point but when Look magazine showed off Primark's SS13 pieces, I couldn't help but be excited. There are four pieces that really popped out at me when I looking through the collection;

China Print Dress, £20

 Favourite!

This China print dress is the cutest thing ever. I can really imagine going out on a sunny day with friends for some tea. It's definitely a must have for me. I'd pair it with a white shrug, white shoes and a popping red brooch or red scarf to add some flare and break up the white/blue combination.

Classical Cut Out Leotard, £8

I was unsure about this Leotard at first. I couldn't quite understand why someone would wear a leotard or what to pair it with until my friend explained that they work really well for high waist skirts. I'm always struggling to find something that goes with my leather skater skirt and I think this would be ideal. The cut out sides do bother me slightly, but I'm hoping that it gets hidden by the skirt. I'd also wear this with some killer heels to really make a statement.

Embroided Patch Denim Shirt, £12

This denim shirt is really cute. With a dip dye effect on the sides and embroidery on the shoulders, I can imagine this will be in every girls wardrobe. I'd pair it with dark jeggings or skinny jeans, sandals and a huge canvas bag. A perfect shopping outfit!

My last Primark SS13 piece is this Cream Studded Tote Bag (Price TBA). Totes are just the right size for storing all your essentials without being weighed down by a giant shopper. The only criticism I have with this bag is it's colour as I know that cream always stains so easily. However, the studs are bang on trend and this would look fantastic with any of the pieces I've mentioned above.

To see the full Primark SS13 collection, head over to Look Magazine. I'd love to know which pieces are your must haves so make sure to leave a comment!
